XDT announces v2.5 of its unique Catapult Suite at NAB 2010

Revolutionizing Networked Media Transfers and Review for Global Workflow

Melbourne, Australia – March 22, 2010 – XDT, developers of advanced software-based solutions for digital film, today announced version 2.5 of its flagship Catapult suite of products, including new additions to the product family and several groundbreaking enhancements to the Catapult Protocol.

Redefining networked media transfers and review, the Catapult suite of products delivers unprecedented point-to-point performance by utilizing standard networking infrastructure. The Catapult protocol addresses the shortcomings of common network protocols and bridges the gap between local and wide area transfers which extends to film scanning and remote review of uncompressed frame sequences.

V2.5 features include:

  • Lossless compression of uncompressed sequences providing WAN transfers of up to double the amount of frames over existing links.
  • Extended functionality for WAN transfers including bandwidth management with precise on-the-fly control of network utilization.
  • Addition of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to the Catapult protocol
  • Resume transfers in the Slingshot client, including sequence detection and syncing for both WAN and LAN.
  • Catapult Control interface with enhanced user management controls

  • ‘Ballista for Dart’ Server Edition

    • Ideal for replacing in-house ftp servers
    • Includes new ‘Dart’ web-based transfer client
    • Customizable front-end to match customer’s home page
    • Image preview with meta data display
Erik Otto, Managing Director of XDT, states, “Post-production has entered into a truly global workflow. Companies extend their services across continents and hence efficient and cost effective collaboration has become essential. We are particularly excited about the inclusion of a lossless transit compression for uncompressed frames. This means that e.g. customers with a dedicated 100Mbit connection are now able to transfer frames at a virtual speed of up to 200Mbits, without paying for more bandwidth through their provider.”

He continues, “Also the addition of ‘Ballista for Dart’ provides customers with a secure low cost solution for replacing in-house ftp servers. It provides administrators with a simple but powerful web-driven user management interface and gives end users the impression they have never left the company’s website.”
